What is a pathological liar?
Pathological person : A person with unhealthy behaviors that can incapacitate their daily life.
So, a pathological liar is a person who lies so compulsively that it becomes a need.
How do they act?
They tell stories with details, many details, which will seem real to the other person. They also tend to continue denying their lie, no matter if it is an obvious lie or not, since they do it spontaneously, even covering up their lie with another story if they are discovered.
How can you recognize one?
Example 1: Average person
Generally speaking, when an average person lies, it is easy to identify when they are lying, much more so if it is someone known such as a sibling or close friend; Because we are used to the daily life of this person and how they communicate and relate to others, why is this easier? Because we notice how their speech and behavior changes, usually people when they lie, take more time to generate responses than those who tell the truth, Anyway, when it is a planned lie, the average person tends to say everything they know immediately, even though it may vary, its identified since they are not used to lie.
Example 2: The liar
Instead, a pathological liar usually lies compulsively, sometimes even without realizing it and actually believing their own lie. You can recognize them if:
They brag, they get defensive, something in their story doesn't add up, they blame someone else or change the subject when they feel cornered. And in the event that you know 100% that you are right and you know 100% that they are lying to you, they will continue to lie with complete comfort because they mostly feel no remorse for it since it becomes a routine because the brain adapts if you lie repeatedly.
Why do they do it?
Because of anxiety, some of the motivations would be insecurity, wanting to attract attention or, easier said, pretending to be someone else due to these fears themselves, wanting to create a new reality.
